2010 Predictions
Just like last year, 2010 continues to be a yin and yang year full of
tragedies and heart-warming stories (nationally and internationally)
that make it both difficult and inspiring. Tragedies draw people
together and lives are changed forever as a result of experiencing
or witnessing difficult situations and times. Values are changed.
People become accustomed to living with less, and enjoy the
freedom that accompanies this new “lifestyle.” Some make
changes because of job, income or other loss while others do this
cleaning out to help them let go of belongings that aren’t needed
and weight them down.
The ground below us shakes like an 8.0 earthquake making it quite
impossible to be comfortable. Therefore, things that seemed so
certain are no longer a certainty. Both external and internal factors
contribute to this shaking. This soul searching is a way of letting
go of what isn’t important or necessary. This introspection has a
very positive outcome as it steers people in a direction that permits
them to live authentically and to receive intrinsic rewards rather
than extrinsically Old ways of thinking are changing. Evaluation,
revaluation, and soul searching are common. Who am I? What is
important to me? People find an internal strength that they may not
have known that they have. People become more authentic as a
result of this soul searching and change in consciousness. In times
of such uncertainty, become accustomed to being uncomfortable.
Our eyes have to see and feel the world differently.
Green Living
Green living becomes a household word as the movement grows
bigger and snowballs with more people jumping on the
bandwagon. There is nothing like a natural or unnatural disaster or
crisis to help people prioritize what is important to them.
People become more willing to purchase environmentally friendly
products. New and novel industries emerge. Put on your thinking
cap.
Global Warming
Global warming becomes more evident and obvious. Expect more
disasters this year, and many of them are the direct result of global
warming. More media attention is given to it. The United States
better get on the bandwagon or some European countries will be
selling more environmentally friendly products to us and other
countries, because we waited too long to start taking the problems
seriously.
Economy
The economy continues to be a roller coaster of a ride. Don’t
expect things to get much better this year. Many people will
continue to struggle. While unemployment remains high, new
industries emerge. Some will embark upon new careers. For
some this new career is the result of a spiritual journey. This is a
time when people leave jobs that weigh on them too heavily for
more meaningful work.
Natural Foods
Natural and organic foods grow in importance and popularity.
(Fast foods are still popular because of their convenience and low
cost.) There will be discussions and debates concerning the value
of organics. There is a growing momentum to force farmers who
grow organically to become certified. Expect to see sparks between
those who certify their produce and those who don’t but claim to
grow organically.
Politics
Politics equal outrage and disgust. Simply put, the public is fed up
with politics, and will vote in new politicians during this election
year. “Throw the bums out” and “send them back home” are
common feelings. Politicians of all political parties who ignore
their constituents may find themselves looking for another job.
A new voter and a new politician will emerge. More people who
participated in local grass roots politics will run for national
offices. Some call themselves practical and label themselves
independent.
President Obama will make some s in his cabinets. Do not
underestimate his ability to shift his thinking and then take a
different course of action. He is a quick learner and will make
changes in policies that will reflect his changes. He is an
incredible strategist and a keen observer, and would make a great
chess player. He will accomplish much this year even if he doesn’t
get everything passed in Congress exactly to his liking.
Science
This should be a good year for breakthroughs in medicine.
Treatments will be found that will help people with illnesses such
as various cancers that will give hope to many people. There will
be public pressure and interest in developing clean air and water.
There is growing acceptance and recognition that these are
valuable and important commodities that need protecting and
saving.
